Monitor your security and accessibility compliance

There are many ways an intruder can gain access to your WordPress or Drupal website. There is a database they can inject malicious code into, 3rd party plugins they can compromise and don’t forget even get into your email, then conversely your website itself.

Effective Website Security

The first step is to combat these techniques and to do this, it takes good working knowledge of these methods (especially how to block them), continuous monitoring for suspicious activity, strong password policies and staying up-to-date on the latest security channels that are publicizing the latest internet security threats.

What We Do When the Worst Happens

Sometimes though, the bad guys get into your website and then your website gets defaced or user data gets stolen. We have the ability with our daily backups to restore to a previous day before the hack, then change passwords and trace the entry point to “lock the gate tighter” and keep history from repeating itself.

How Do I Keep My Website Secure?

This is a lot for our clients to worry about in the end and is one of the many reasons we offer Security monitoring and reporting as a continuous monthly service. Contact us today and we will outline how we can keep you secure from new threats in the ever-growing cyber crime arena.

Why Your Website Must Be Compliant

The Accessibility for Ontarians With Disabilities Act

Back in 2005, the Ontario enacted the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act that’s purpose was to improve accessibility standards for Ontarians with physical and mental disabilities in all public establishments by 2025.

Early on it wasn’t fully intended to impact the internet and websites in general but that changed in July 2011 when Ontario Regulation 191/11 was enacted stating a new “Accessible Information and Communications” standard that was designed to address the removal of barriers in access to information and include information being provided in person, through print, telephone, websites, and other means.

Beyond that a framework was then established to outline accessibility compliance standards that needed to be met within newly defined timelines:

  • By January 1, 2012, new internet and intranet websites and web content on those sites must conform with WCAG 2.0 Level AA, other than, success criteria 1.2.4 Captions (Live), and success criteria 1.2.5 Audio Descriptions (Pre-recorded).
  • By January 1, 2016, all internet websites and web content must conform with WCAG 2.0 Level AA, other than, success criteria 1.2.4 Captions (Live), and success criteria 1.2.5 Audio Descriptions (Pre-recorded).
  • By January 1, 2020, all internet and intranet websites and web content must conform with WCAG 2.0 Level AA. O. Reg. 191/11, s. 14 (3).
All web developers in Ontario must be keenly aware of building to these standards and launch websites that fully comply with WCAG 2.0 Level AA guidelines.

How does this affect my website?

Your developer needs to train you to edit your content management system and keep this legally required accessibility rating. That can be hard when you have multiple website editors adding content everyday that don’t understand heading structures and rules surrounding colour contrast and images.

That is one of the many reasons we offer Security and Accessibility monitoring and reporting as a continuous monthly service. It allows you to take comfort in the fact that all website edits you make, will be scanned and checked for errors with clear instructions from our design team on how to avoid non-compliant updates in your future content additions.

How do I start receiving compliance monitoring and reports?

Contact us today and we will audit your website and start a conversation on how we can keep you legally compliant with WCAG Level AA. This can be bundled with our Security monitoring and report as well to keep you fully covered for years to come.
